MS Dhoni Eyes Post-Retirement Army Role, Reflects on CSK’s IPL Journey
In a recent revelation, MS Dhoni, the captain of Chennai Super Kings (CSK), disclosed his post-retirement aspirations, expressing a desire to dedicate more time to the Indian Army. Although Dhoni retired from international cricket in 2020, he continues to lead CSK in the Indian Premier League (IPL), and the upcoming season might be his final stint. In the previous IPL season, Dhoni led CSK to their fifth title, defeating the Gujarat Titans in the final at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium.
After the 2023 season, CSK released eight players ahead of the IPL 2024 retention deadline and secured six new players in the auction, including Daryl Mitchell, Sameer Rizvi, Shardul Thakur, Rachin Ravindra, Mustafizur Rahman, and Avanish Rao Aravelly. Responding to a fan’s question about his plans at an event, Dhoni expressed a keen interest in spending more time with the Army post-retirement.
Reflecting on CSK’s strategic moves, Dhoni emphasized the importance of retaining a connection with the Army, citing his inability to do so in recent years due to cricket commitments. While Chennai initially attempted to replace Dhoni with Ravindra Jadeja as captain in IPL 2022, Dhoni reclaimed the role in 2023, leading the team to victory in the final at Ahmedabad. The CSK squad for the upcoming season includes a mix of experienced players and promising talents.
